General ProceduresYou must complete the general procedures for admission. Specific RequirementsFormsPhD application form (pdf | word) Educational BackgroundIncoming students are expected to have a solid educational background that prepares them for their doctoral study. The elements of that background may vary depending on the area of research to be pursued and its associated methodology. Applicants who are admitted without this background may be asked to take additional coursework as part of their doctoral studies in order to develop such a foundation. Admission to the PhD program is further subject to the recommendation of the School of Information Doctoral Program Committee and to the approval of the dean of Graduate Studies. GPA & GREFor regular admission to doctoral study, you must have a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale in all upper-division (junior and senior level) and graduate-level course work that you have attempted. You should have a high score on the Verbal and Quantitative Aptitude portions of the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) General Test.
