Workshop for Wildfire Victims: Salvage Personal Records
Conservators from the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin are hosting free workshops to assist victims of the Labor Day weekend fires that ravaged Central Texas. Trained conservators and their students will be on-hand to consult with and provide assistance to those in our community who may have suffered damage to:
- documents
- books
- photographs
- art objects
- digital storage/computer equipment, and
- heirlooms
Conservators and their students will provide expertise on:
- how to handle wet or water damaged documents
- caring for smoke and fire damaged objects, and
- handling extremely fragile objects
When are the workshops?
The first workshop was held on Sunday, September 11th and more are currently being planned. Please notify Karen Pavelka at 512-903-9564 for more information.
Where will the workshops be held?
Efforts are currently underway to determine the best locations to assist wildfire victims. We will post all information about upcoming events on this site.
What should I bring?
Members of the community are invited to bring damaged objects with them to the workshop or to bring photos of damaged items for evaluation by the conservators and their students. Participants assume all risk for items brought to the workshop. If you are unsure about whether or not to transport an item, you are encouraged to take photos of damaged objects and bring those in for evaluation.
Who can I call for more information?
