Grete Pasch

I am from Guatemala, Central America. My work and studies (see Resumé) concentrate on the implementation of computer information systems, library and internet cataloging, and Central American information resources.

I am working on the following projects...

Internet & Information Services:

Library Technology Consultant for the Texas State Library: training and helping librarians with technology issues.
Instructor: Introduction to Internet Resources and Services and Information in Cyberspace (a web-based course I developed) at the GSLIS (Graduate School of Library and Information Science), University of Texas at Austin.
Co-designed and implemented InfoLib, a web-based library automation system currently available for Windows NT servers. See a working prototype at the Universidad Francisco Marroquín.
GSLIS Multimedia Product Reviews: a site I originally designed, currently maintained by GSLIS students. Contains reviews of multimedia products, mostly on CDs. See Stowaway! - one one of my very first HTML pages!

Guatemala:

Chapines Online, est. 1995, is the directory of Guatemalans on the Net. See also Catrachos Online, Guanacos Online, Nicas Online, and Boricuas Online.
Gerencia, the monthly management journal published by the Guatemalan Management Association, was the first Guatemalan publication ever to appear in electronic form (in 1995). From 1994 to 1998 I wrote Gerencia's Information Technology section.
Vamos Todos a Votar! (in Spanish), an electronic "voting" booth I ran during the 1996 Guatemalan Presidential elections.
I also host the page for the Area Verde Foundation.

Central and Latin America:

Information Services: Historical information on regional email providers, Internet connectivity within and from Central America to the rest of the world, and a series of papers about information services from Belize to Panama.
At LANIC, I developed the web-based data entry interface for the ARL Latin Americanist Pilot Project.
